Last week in Los Angeles, Richard Mille chose to pay homage to Hollywood and the 84th Oscars ceremony by participating in two flagship events: the cocktail party in honor of Martin Scorsese and the Film Foundation, and the 2012 Academy Awards party organized by the Weinstein Company for the Oscar winners, including actor Jean Dujardin and director Michel Hazanavicius representing the film ‘The Artist’.

The festivities began on Thursday, February 24th in the prestigious Hotel Bel-Air, where Richard Mille coorganized a private reception evening with Vanity Fair magazine to honor both the multi-award winning director and the Film Foundation, the organization he founded in 1990. The evening also celebrated the success of his latest film ‘Hugo’, which was nominated for eleven Oscars and took home five on Sunday night, for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

If one has the occasion to visit Yvan Mahe’s Equipe Europe workshop in Ozouer Le Voulgis, France, the feeling one can get is that of dropping in on a living classic car museum.

Situated in the picturesque French countryside, about 30 miles from Paris, the Equipe Europe garage is specialized in the restoration, preparation, service and development of historic racing cars. The shop is located in the medieval buildings behind the village’s 15th century church, but the historic atmosphere is provided just as well by the almost 70 historic cars present – with some real rarities among them.

This year, like every year, the Tour Auto road rally is a  marathon event for Equipe Europe, with 11 cars to maintain during this week long very challenging but very beautiful motorsport trial.

With historical race tracks like Le Mans, Nogaro and Monthlery and tight twisty roads in the south west of France, the drivers have no time to get bored!

In category VH, the GT40 of duo MILLE/MAHE take the win on every circuit section and were in the top5 until the penultimate afternoon when a broken gearbox unfortunately immobilised the mythical car.

The two AC Cobra’s of GUENAT/FRAGNIERE and FERRER/BENAZET were also very rapid but the innocent victim of an accident at Le Mans will put the first Cobra out respectively, while the second went on to finish a very fine 3rd place overall for their very first participation..

The two Lotus Elan’s of GUTZWILLER/MESSNER and MEY/MEY were present just like every year but unfortunately this year was not a good vintage for the little Lotus’s, with mechanical issues forcing them both out before the end.

The elegant Jaguar Type-E of MERLIN/MERLIN is a surprisingly fast machine, and the husband and wife team became more and more comfortable with their car recording a wonderful 5th place overall at the arrival in Biarritz.

In Group GH1, the two Lancia Stratos’s of FRANCE/FRANCE and HAUTOT/CANTREL were at the front of their group and fought tooth and nail to stay in touch whether on track or special stage. At the end the pairing of France/France fell victim to the fragile Ferrari engine while the Stratos of Hautot/Cantrel, still in it’s original orange paint took a fine 2nd place.

3rd round of the Classic Endurance Racing at Imola 2011: wet weather during the weekend except the race, which forced the pilots to fight until the end.

Onboard with a 935

After several years in Peugeot museum, the Peugeot 905 is now back on track with Group C racing . The astonishing sound of the V10 peugeot engine will probably inspire most of the spectators and also testify its incredible performances.

Après la Sauber Mercedes C291, le Group C Racing va accueillir une autre voiture mythique. En effet, Richard Mille, le créateur de la marque de montres de luxe éponyme Richard Mille et sponsor principal de Le Mans Classic, a acheté une Peugeot 905. Cette 905 est le châssis EV14 -qui disputa Le Mans en 1991, équipage Alliot/Jabouille/Baldi. La voiture a été restaurée par Yvan Mahé et Equipe Europe. Elle courra en configuration Evo 1 bis (donc dans une autre configuration de la photo du pesage des 24 Heures du Mans 1991) et aura un moteur en configuration endurance, développant 595 chevaux à 11900 tours/minute.

La participation à la course du Paul Ricard est assurée, celle de Spa en très bonne voie et Richard Mille et Yvan Mahé envisagent également de courir à Silverstone, selon le magazine Autosport.

Par ailleurs, Yvan Mahé espère faire courir deux Peugeot 905 en 2012.
